Oak Wooden Flooring - Ideas And Inspiration

When you think about wooden floors the wood that most comes to mind is oak. Traditionally an English wood we equate this to our past and this reminder of our heritage is key to our love of wood and in particular oak. Oak has been used as a material to produce wooden flooring and wooden furniture for hundreds of years. If you are watching a programme such as Antiques Roadshow you often see exquisite oak tables that were made centuries ago that look as good as they did when they were first constructed.

This longevity of oak is why it makes a fantastic material for a wooden floor. Oak floors are found in heritage properties across England as oak trees are found across the countryside. One of the key features of this wood is indeed found in the living tress. These trees live for hundreds and hundreds of years, indeed there is an oak tree in Sherwood Forest that has been there for over 800 years and is still standing.

It is this intrinsical longevity that makes it a fantastic material for a wooden floor. Oak floors bring a warmth to a property. Like all wooden floors they are hygienic and easier to clean and take care of than carpets they also last a lot longer than a carpet so although getting a wood floor installed will seem like a huge investment at the time it will be something that has longevity and as long as you look after it will probably not have to be replaced in your lifetime (that is unless you wish to change the look of your home and then you might want to replace it with a different wood) Oak floors have a disadvantage when it comes to modern living.

They don’t really fit with ultra modern furniture and therefore may not be to your taste if that is your favourite type of dcor. They can be accessorised with rugs to give you something a bit cosy underfoot or if you want to change your house completely can be accessorised with under floor heating.

This gives your oak floor a modern touch as this Scandinavian favourite is an economical and environmental alternative to traditional heating. When looking for someone to install an Oak wooden floor for you it is good to look for someone who will be able to take your likes and dislikes into account.
